We’re aware of unauthorised access and theft of some mail articles delivered to Melbourne GPO Boxes between 6 and 17 July.

Four break-ins, which were isolated to the mezzanine area of the Melbourne GPO Box Room, occurred after hours on:

  • Sunday 6 July 2025
  • Friday 11 July 2025
  • Wednesday 16 July 2025
  • Thursday 17 July 2025

During the break-ins, some mail was unlawfully removed. Importantly, we do not believe a significant amount of mail was taken in any of the break-ins and most of the post boxes at the facility were unaffected.

If you have sent correspondence to Melbourne GPO Boxes with expected delivery between 5 and 17 July 2025, you should contact the recipient to confirm whether they have received it.

We have increased security and are working with Victoria Police to investigate.
